Bridal Q&A: Chandler Bewkes

Behind the scenes with a Darien bride

Venue: Wee Burn Beach Club, Rowayton

Church: Saint Luke's Parish, Darien

Catering: Wee Burn Beach Club, Rowayton

Band: Uptown Mix (Vali Entertainment Group). Sarah Taggert told me not to even listen to them since they were the best band but kind of pricey. In the end I did and I was hooked. Dancing and music are really important to me and my family and we were thrilled with Uptown Mix.

Dresses: A Little Something White, Darien. I am not a shopper, so I wanted to go to one shop for everything and this was the place. Ashley is so helpful and I really felt like they knew me and my wedding party. I ended up getting a dress by Darien-based designer Coren Moore. My flower girl wore one of her dresses and I also purchased my bridesmaids dresses there.

Cake: Palmer's Bakery, Darien. My mom and I were really excited about choosing the cake. Palmer’s set up a tasting for us right at the bakery counter and we made a day of it, trying several options before we settled on a beautiful 4-tier cake with classic buttercream frosting (I’m not a huge fan of fondant!). They were so great in working with my ideas and the final product, with each swiss-dotted tier wrapped in blue satin ribbon and surrounded by fresh hydrangeas, was exactly what I wanted.

Wedding Planner: A Polished Plan, Forestville. Sarah Taggert, previously the wedding planner at Wee Burn, had obviously worked with our venue many times and so she was the perfect choice. I found her in an online search, but when we spoke she laughed out loud, “I did your dad’s 60th birthday! I remember your family.” It was fate!

Photographer: Orchard Cove Photography, Vermont. My friend from high school, Amanda Herzberger, is a fantastic photographer. The fact that she is an old friend just made the choice (and the experience) that much better.

Videographer: Fairytale Studios, NY. I watched a video of a friend’s wedding made by Fairytale and I was sold. Ulitmately this was really the best money we spent. We have all our friends and family speaking on camera and we actually watch it occasionally. Someday our kids will get to see what our wedding was like.

Hair & Makeup: Lanphier Day Spa, Darien. I’ve been going to Lanphier since forever, but the new space really sealed the deal. I was so excited to get everyone’s hair done there. They sent Morgan to do our makeup and she gave everyone a really natural look, which was exactly what we wanted. It was really perfect.
