Wendacie Smith & John Sweeney IV
John Scripps Sweeney IV, known as Jay, walked into a store at the Stamford Town Center where Wendacie Veron Smith, known as Daisy, was working. She thought he was a model that was expected in the store, but quickly realized he was a costumer, and while helping him, sparks flew. The couple dated for five years. When Jay decided to pop the question, he commissioned his brother Tim to take pictures of the proposal at the Castle at Tod’s Point. Tim was a little late in arriving with the camera, leaving Jay to ad-lib for ten minutes before he could ask for Daisy’s hand. Pastor Douglas Jefferies, with World Christian Ministry and Greenwich born-and-raised, officiated at the ceremony held on the beach of Simpson Bay, St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles. A reception followed at The Penthouse on Simpson Bay.
The bride, daughter of Leslyn King of Bridgeport, and Cedric Smith of Georgetown, Guyana, in South America, graduated from Central High School in Bridgeport. She is the assistant manager at White House, Black Market in the Stamford Town Center.
The groom, son of Ann Taylor Sweeney of Greenwich, and the late John Scripps Sweeney III, graduated from Greenwich High School and Fordham University. He is a keyboard musician, songwriter and singer who performs around the world.
Following a honeymoon in St. Maarten, the newlyweds returned home to Greenwich.
