In 2008, Eliza Zara had just moved to New York City to pursue her nursing career, but little did she know she would also find her future husband, Anthony Perna. Chip Buzzeo, Eliza’s brother-in-law, who attended Princeton University with Anthony and played lacrosse with him, introduced the couple. Three years later, Anthony proposed to Eliza on bended knee under the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.

For more than forty years, Eliza’s family has been going to Nantucket, so it was only natural the bride and groom chose that island as the location for their beautiful October wedding. Rev. Dr. Gary W. Klingsporn officiated at the ceremony at the First Congregational Church. The reception was held at the Great Harbor Yacht Club where guests were greeted with treasures of the island and a Sea Breeze, a tribute to the bride’s Granny Titi, as this was her favorite drink.

The bride is the daughter of Mary and Thomas Zara of New Canaan. A graduate of New Canaan High School, she received her nursing degree from the University of Pennsylvania and is currently in graduate school at New York University studying for a masters in public health. Eliza is also employed as a nurse for Cityscape OB/GYN and RMA of New York.

The groom is the son of Christine and Anthony Perna of Montclair, New Jersey. He graduated from Princeton University with a degree in politics and is vice president of institutional equity sales for Barclays Capital in Manhattan.

The newlyweds spent their honeymoon in the Maldives and Dubai and reside in New York City.
