Apple Picking in Fairfield County
Three places to enjoy this family activity
The time of year has come again when the air begins to become crisp, leaves start to turn color and fall from the trees, and apples are prepared to be picked. Whether you are interested in creating a perfect apple pie, a sweet apple crisp, or just enjoying the fruit on its own, here are three local stops to experience this family friendly activity.
Silverman’s Farm is open daily from 9am to 4:30pm for apple picking and also has a pumpkin patch, which is utilized particularly during their annual Octoberfest. Silverman’s also has a farm market with fresh jams, local honey and, of course, a large selection of pies.
Beardsley’s Cider Mill & Orchard
Apple picking at Beardsley’s Cider Mill & Orchard is open on the weekends from 10-5pm starting in September. In addition to apples and local honey, Beardsley’s also sells 100% pure apple cider, which is made from a state-of-the-art press. The farm stand also sells appetizing treats such as pumpkin cheesecake, farm baked fruit breads and cider donuts.
Blue Jay Orchards
Blue Jay Orchards is open for apple picking from 9am-5pm and the farm store is open until 6pm. A unique aspect of Blue Jay Orchards is their apple, pumpkin and “combo” tours, which give guests the opportunity to learn about the orchard, take a wagon ride in the pumpkin patch, or both! The added bonuses are the cider and donuts during the tour.
