Advice from a recent bride

How was the planning process different for an outdoor reception?
It’s different for a few of reasons. Mainly, you need to have a game plan for if it rains. Our reception was always going to be tented on the tennis court but our cocktail hour on the outside patio was not tented. We would have had to do an extra tent if rain was in the forecast. Also, you need to factor in all rentals for a tented wedding. That includes things like garbage cans, ice tubs, cocktail shakers, etc. You need to rent a restroom trailer. Also, will need a generator to power all music, tent lighting, etc. I got engaged in February and married in September so had 7 months engagement. The hardest part is figuring out like bridesmaid dresses, guy’s suits and such. I think the real planning starts a couple months before though. The key is to be very organized!

Ceremony: St. Pius X Church, Fairfield

Reception: At my parents’ home in Fairfield, tented the tennis court for reception. Abbey Tent did all tent and rentals

My dress: Custom by Marysia Nystrom of Fleur Isabelle in South Norwalk
I met with Marysia pretty much every week starting beginning of April on creation of my gown. She bought all fabric in NYC, the first layer was a stretch silk and second layer was silk tulle. The top of gown was more difficult to figure out because I knew I didn’t want totally strapless but I wanted something very elegant but young at the same time. We went through a bunch of options amd Marysia came upon that gorgeous netting. The trim detail was pearls and diamonds and it took a long time for us to find trim that worked. The end result was a gown that couldn’t be more perfect for me.

Marysia also designed my sister’s dress, bridesmaids, and my mom’s dress. All were stunning. My sister (the maid of honor) wore a long bronze dress and the bridesmaids wore a short pale pink dress. Mom wore deep sapphire blue.

Hair: Saul from Sleek Salon in South Norwalk- he’s amazing. I wore my hair up for ceremony and took it down for reception.

Makeup: Alexandra Kydes – she currently works at Sephora in Greenwich
