The Sole Debate

Heels or Flats- Which gets your vote?

Nishelle Bootie by BCBG, Flats by Repetto

For women, it’s an age-old question: heels or flats? Now that the election season is behind us, it's time to focus on the footwear debate many women face before they can even step out their front door. We have put the candidates face-to-face, or sole-to-sole, to inform shoppers about the options in store in Westport. So which do you choose– the glamour of a high heel or the classic comfort of a flat?

Head Over Heels

There’s no denying how great a pair of stilettos can make you feel. You stand up a little bit taller, your calves appear as if you hit the gym yesterday even if you didn’t, and, for the vertically-challenged out there, you add a few more inches by simply slipping your foot into your favorite platform, wedge, or pump. Viola– instant confidence and class for any outfit!

Heels have gone metallic at BCBG this season. With so many different styles incorporating the metallic gold and black trend, there's a shoe for any occasion.

Studded booties are all the rage right now. The Nishelle bootie by BCBG is an open toe suede platform that would look awesome with some skinny black jeans for a night out. The gold embellishments add the perfect amount of edginess to your look.

Diah Sandal by BCBG

If looking for a more feminine version of the metal trend, the Diah Sandal by BCBG adds a romantic sultry touch to the metallic craze. I loved the crisscross straps and the peep-toe on this suede heel. Perfect to pair with a classic cocktail dress for an elegant edge.

This half-pump, half-bootie is not to be missed! Deemed the "bootie pump", this unique hybrid is the Laleh Cutout Bootie. The romantic elegance of the suede compliments the rock-and-roll leather trim. The metallic buckle is a fun addition to this eclectic heel. These shoes are definitely conversation starters.

As the hours drag on, the boost of confidence that comes with high heels soon fades. The dogs begin to bark, making you regret your early morning shoe decision. And nothing compares to the sheer embarrassment of tripping while trying to walk on an uneven surface like cobblestone. With heels getting more and more outrageous (and more and more un-wearable) every season, more women seem to be undergoing a shoe conversion from heels to flats.

Channel Your Inner Ballerina

The classic ballet flat is a closet staple for women on the go. Running from errand to errand is a snap without a heel getting in the way. Slip them on with jeans for the weekend or pair them with a pencil skirt for work. That's the beauty of flats– they can easily adapt to any outfit and can be thrown on in a pinch when your feet just can't take another minute in those heels.

Designing ballet flats since 1947, Repetto is a legend in the world of footwear. With Hollywood moms such as Angelina Jolie, Madonna and Reese Witherspoon donning chic Repetto flats on the street lately, more and more women are ditching heels for a stylish yet practical ballet flat.

Walk like a Parisian in these chic Repetto flats available at Henry Lehr. Available in classic neutrals and a variety of patterns, my favorite is the Ballerina Cendrillon style, made out of an embossed cobra material in an easy-to-style taupe color. Close your eyes and Westport's Main Street may just transform into the Champs-Élysées– a girl can dream right?
