"Jim Rodgers: Tranche de Vie"

This November, the Geary Gallery of Darien is proud to present, “Jim Rodgers: Tranche de Vie,” an exhibit of the poetic portrayal of nature and slice of life vision of landscape and oil painter, Jim Rodgers, Nov. 1 to Nov. 31.

Born in New Jersey and now a resident of Pennsylvania, Jim Rodgers studied at the Art Students League in New York City, as well as the Ridgewood Art Institute, where he studied landscape painting.

Rodgers paints a wide range of subjects and subject matter, from lush American and European landscapes to intimate genre paintings, as well as elegant and sophisticated still life and floral renderings. His paintings reflect richness in tone and color that are the result of more than 30 years of professional study and artistic sojourns throughout the United States, England, Ireland, France, and Italy. These journeys helped to produce the subject matter and inspiration that is the basis of his painterly impressionistic style. He currently resides in the bucolic countryside of Lancaster County in Pennsylvania, where he enjoys capturing the quiet, sylvan landscapes of farm country on canvas.

Rodgers’ intention is to capture the mood of the scenes he has painted “en plein air,” and rendered in his studio to give the viewer a glimpse of what he has experienced. He tries to evoke an emotional response from the viewer through his poetic portrayal of nature and his concept of a tranche de vie—slice of life—vision.

"The Little Treasures Holiday Show"

And for your holiday gift giving, from Nov. 17 to Dec. 24, the Gallery presents “The Little Treasures Holiday Show,” a collection of more than 150 unique and affordable fine art by some of the region’s most well-known and respected artists. Featuring only works that are 8” x 10” or smaller, all media is represented, from oils to pastels, acrylics to watercolors.

The “Little Treasures” show was inspired by gallery visitors’ love of fine art, and the appeal of one-of-a-kind, memorable keepsakes, combined with the appeal of pieces that are easier on the pocket than some of the more substantial statement pieces that are generally on display at the gallery for acquisition.

For truly heart-felt unique gift giving ideas, Geary Gallery is pleased to present this holiday show that features the artwork of more than 20 artists, all well known masters of their particular medium. The show opens Nov. 17, through Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2012.
