Wedding Day Hair and Makeup

Your wedding day is your time to be the center of attention. Not only is it a day that will live on in your memory, but also in the hundreds of photographs that will be taken. Don’t let your hairstyle or makeup choices taint your memory of your special day! You want to look glamorous and picture perfect, allowing your natural beauty shine through.

Ashling Mulhare and Donna Lysobey, experts from the Angela Cosmai Salon in Stamford, know a thing or two about how to achieve that timeless look. Ashling won the 2013 Best Of the Gold Coast for Best Makeup Artist and Donna is Senior Stylist who promises “the perfect cut and style.”

These tips will save you from hair and makeup emergencies from the time you walk down the aisle, through the tearful toasts, and to when you dance the night away.

Q: What single hair product is the most important for a bride to have on her wedding day?

D+A: Hairspray– to keep any fly always in place. It also doubles as a setting spray to help makeup stay on. Our personal favorite for brides is the Angela Cosmai Aerotec Hairspray which comes in a travel size– perfect for your bag!

Q: How do you keep cool under all of the pressure of a bride’s wedding day?

D+A: We have our list of clients in order so we will stay on schedule, we bring a positive energy, and we always remember that the bride is our #1 priority!

Q: Do you have any advice for bad weather on the wedding day?

D: You may want to have an alternative up-do style in case of inclement weather or just carry an umbrella and remember rain brings good luck!

Q: What do you consider to be a classic bridal look?

D+A: “Timeless” is always the look we strive for. We never recommend makeup trends on your big day. You want to look back at pictures and still feel as beautiful as you did that day. Simple hair is better, like a French twist, glowing skin, and a rosy cheek and lip.

Q: Do you have any makeup “quick fixes” for over the course of the day?

A: Always bring blotting papers to avoid any shine in pictures. Always remember to reapply lipstick or you can easily look washed-out in pictures. Bring a foundation stick that can easily swiped under eyes to freshen up after any tears.

Q: What are your top 3 hair tips for brides?

D+A: 1. Always do your hair color 10 days before the wedding, 2. cut your hair two weeks prior and 3. don’t go with a style you normally would never try! Stay classic.

Q: How far in advance should a bride book their hair stylist and a makeup artist?

D+A: Three to six months before the wedding day to become more acquainted and reserve an appointment. We recommend coming in on a day you have an event, so you can test out the look.

Q: How do you balance makeup for photos and for in-person?

A: Don’t overdue foundation! You can achieve a contoured look easily without the “caked on” effect. This will transfer beautifully into pictures as well. The last thing you want are makeup lines down your face from happy tears!

Q: What’s your favorite thing about working with brides?

A: Working with brides is truly one of the best parts of this business. It is an honor to be part of such a special day…I get back just as much as I give when making a bride feel her best.

D: Every wedding is as exciting as the first! Being chosen for a wedding has always been a pleasure for me. It is a thrill for me to see a bride’s complete hair and makeup, dress and veil. Seeing that smile from ear to ear warms my heart.

Q: What are your words of wisdom for brides?

A: Keep a list to delegate to bridesmaids so everything is taken care of. So all you need to do is relax and truly enjoy your beautiful day.
