The power of the mind. How many times have heard that expression? How many books have been written? Keeping your mind sharp is a priority for all of us especially in this multi- tasking society. Follow my simple tips to maintain and even boost brain power.

1. Exercise

Walk at least ten thousand steps per day to rev up brain power and maintain healthy blood sugar levels and control blood pressure

2. Eat for a healthy brain.

Yes that's right there are foods that you can incorporate into your diet for a healthy brain. Just to mention a few power foods:

  • Salmon has brain boosting omega 3's, include at least two servings per week.
  • Walnuts also have brain boosting omega 3's, snack on a handful a day.
  • Blueberries are the power berries, there blue hue containing poly-phenols known to boost cognitive thinking. Munch on 1/2 cup per day.
  • Turmeric spice is an anti-inflammatory and it is what gives mustard it's yellow color. Sprinkle the spice on veggies, chicken, fish and stews or spread some mustard instead of mayo on your sandwich.

Try my blueberry shake for a power boost:

3/4 cup frozen blueberries
1 cup low-fat plain Greek yogurt
1/2 cup skim milk (you may substitute almond or soy milk)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon honey

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend on high speed until smooth and creamy. Enjoy!
