Lisa Phillips and Jeff Hingst spotted each other at The Goose in Darien just two days after Jeff completed his first New York City Marathon in November 2010. As Lisa was sitting with a friend and Jeff was down the bar with his buddies from the train, they couldn’t have been situated farther away, but they quickly gravitated toward each other to talk about the marathon, which Lisa had run several years ago. The next day Jeff called and they have spent few days apart since.

On the night Jeff proposed, he asked Lisa to wear a favorite fancy dress and then proceeded to take her to the Black Bear Saloon in South Norwalk, where they had spent Christmas night having dinner the year before. Lisa recalls, “I will always remember the snow falling that night and being the only two people on foot down in SoNo. We were holding hands and that’s when I knew that he was going to be someone special in my life.”

They then moved onto a more formal restaurant down the street, where Jeff popped the question. Their romance has always been very local, so they decided to have a backyard wedding at their home. Attended by friends from the area and by family from as far away as Iowa and Alabama, it was the perfect low-key celebration for the couple, who have five children between them.

Lisa graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in history and is employed by Moffly Media in Westport, where she is in advertising sales. She is the daughter of Jeff Busby of Birmingham, Alabama, and Diana Clark of Naples, Florida.

Jeff received a degree in finance from Drake University and works for Gleacher & Company in Manhattan. He is the son of Gerry and Larry Hingst of Des Moines, Iowa.

Following a honeymoon in Florida, where they hit Miami and the Florida Keys, the newlyweds returned home to Rowayton.
