While Lauren and Etan knew that their wedding date was the same day as Lauren’s grandmother’s ninetieth birthday, they did not plan to share the day with Hurricane Irene. Despite the torrential downpour, the couple took the hurricane in stride by moving the wedding ceremony up and indoors and remaining calm. Rabbi Israel Stein officiated at the wedding at the Rolling Hills Country Club in Wilton. A lovely reception followed at the same location.
Lauren first met Etan during her first week of college; they became fast friends and soon began dating. After five years together, Etan proposed in Turkey during a sunset motorboat ride.
Lauren, the daughter of Renee and Fredric Beitman of Westport, is a graduate of Joel Barlow High School in Redding. She received a bachelor’s degree in marketing and retail management from Syracuse University. Lauren is an associate buyer at Ross Stores in New York.
Etan is the son of Lydia and Sam Shalem of Old Westbury, New York. He acquired a bachelor’s degree in finance from Syracuse University and works as a commercial real estate broker for Welco Realty in New Rochelle.
The newlyweds returned home to Manhattan after a honeymoon in Hawaii.
