The idea to introduce Elizabeth and Robert (known as Ford to friends) happened during a chance conversation between Ford’s mom, Lynne, and Elizabeth’s close friend and proctor from Deerfield Academy, Ginger Larsen, who are colleagues at Tabor Academy. Lynne, hoping to entice Ford to move back to New England, inquired if Ginger knew of any good prospects.

Sure enough, within days, Ginger and Lynne had engineered a blind date between Ford and Elizabeth over Labor Day weekend. As well as the date went, there was little hope of a long-term relationship with Elizabeth in Greenwich and Ford in Washington, D.C. Yet, as fate would have it, Elizabeth found herself without a date for a wedding on Martha’s Vineyard the following weekend, so she invited Ford. It wasn’t long before he was job hunting in Fairfield County.

A year and a half later, on Easter weekend, Elizabeth thought she was meeting their two families for brunch at the Ocean House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, but to her surprise, a very different weekend was in store. Although it was pouring rain, Ford insisted on a detour to Fenway Beach in Weekapaug, Rhode Island, where Elizabeth had spent all of her summers. There, in the rain, Ford popped the question and presented Elizabeth with a ruby ring, Elizabeth’s birthstone.

Spiritual Director Wendy Bratt officiated at the ceremony at the Basin Harbor Club in Vermont, where the reception followed.

The bride, daughter of George Dyke of Pound Ridge, New York, and Liz Fox of Greenwich, graduated from Deerfield Academy and Hamilton College. Elizabeth is an account executive for Winston Flowers in Greenwich.

The groom, son of David and Lynne Barker of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, graduated from Loomis Chaffee and Bowdoin College. Ford is a ship broker with MJLF & Associates in Stamford.

Mr. and Mrs. Barker spent their honeymoon in Riviera Maya, Mexico. They live in Old Greenwich.
