Cora Preston and Thomas Steckroth lived in the same hall their freshman year at Bucknell University, but they didn’t have their first date until they were seniors. That’s when the coupled traveled to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to attend the annual Groundhog Day ceremony.
Five years later, on a frigid December evening, Cora met Tom at his office in Manhattan and the couple proceeded to take a stroll through Central Park. As they neared the end of the Mall and Literary Walk, Tom proposed. They enjoyed a few moments alone before arriving at the apartment of Tom’s sister and brother-in-law. There, they were greeted by their families, who had gathered to celebrate the joyous occasion with champagne. All of this was a surprise to Cora.
Father Walter Wagner officiated at the ceremony at the Church of Saint Vincent Ferrer in New York City and a reception followed at the Central Park Boathouse. The newlyweds spent their honeymoon in Thailand and Beijing.
The bride is the daughter of Olof and L. Ware Preston of Darien. She graduated with a degree in economics from Bucknell University and is an event planner for Glorious Food in Manhattan.
The groom is the son of the Honorable Donald Steckroth of Red Bank, New Jersey, and the late Geraldine Steckroth. He received his bachelor’s in accounting from Bucknell University and his master’s in accounting from Seton Hall University.
Tom is employed by Barclays Capital in New York City, where the couple now lives.
