This was a modern day fairy tale set in Connecticut. It all began with a laptop when Annick Winokur and Peter Gilbert met on Match.com. Annick was on her way to have coffee for the first time with Peter at a Starbucks in New Haven when the birth of her niece Winnie derailed the plan (ironically Winnie would later serve as the flower girl in their wedding). The next day the pair chatted for an hour over coffee before going for a long walk through the park. This would be the first of many strolls Annick and Peter would take over the course of their two-year courtship. On Thanksgiving weekend with the busy backdrop of Grand Central Station, Peter proposed.

Father Allen officiated at the ceremony at St. Mary’s Church in New Haven. Annick’s maternal grandmother could not attend due to a temporary health issue so the modern couple used the same technology that brought them together and had the ceremony skyped live to her so she could experience the event in real time. A reception followed at the Pine Orchard Yacht and Country Club in Branford.

The bride, daughter of Dee and Pug Winokur of Greenwich, graduated from Greenwich Academy and Vanderbilt University. She is a founder of Squash Haven, a program for urban youth in New Haven, and founder and chairman of Sportsometry, a nonprofit program using sports as a tool to teach math and science to middle and upper school students.

The groom, son of Jerry Gilbert and Jean Moran and stepson of Michael Moran, graduated from Watertown High School and Central Connecticut State University. Peter is an I.T. network administrator for the Connecticut Department of Education.

The Gilberts call New Haven home and plan to honeymoon in Europe this summer.
