4 local spots to grab lunch

During the week, I am always on the road in and around Fairfield County – taking care of business. As I plan my day each morning, one of the most important questions that need answering is, “what shall I eat for lunch today?"

Most of the time, I am on my own and would rather not waste time at a sit-down type of a place. While I love to try new restaurants and foods, following are five things that I keep gravitating towards when I want something that I can count on for being quick and confidently delicious!

Layla’s Falafel: If I am in Stamford area, I must have a Falafel wrap at Layla’s Falafel. Everything is home made in this little gem of a restaurant down to all their sauces. With just a handful of tables available, it is a good idea to order by phone to take out. Layla’s makes excellent Baba Ghanoush. They also have pretty decent Baklava. Locations in Stamford and Fairfield.

Valencia Luncheria: If I am passing through Norwalk, then it HAS to be an Arepa or some Empanadas from Valencia Luncheria. Valencia has such an extensive selection of both. With so many interesting flavor combinations, it is quite exciting to try them out and determine personal favorites. Valencia is quiet busy at lunch time, so it is wise to call in your order before you get there to pick up. Located in Norwalk.

Fresh Market: Fresh market in Westport has an extensive selection of prepared foods for all your lunch and dinner needs. My personal favorite here is the Rotisserie Chicken Salad on a Croissant. I love the yummy flavors of the moist rotisserie chicken and how well it pairs with the delicate buttery croissant. This makes for a very satisfying lunch. Located in Westport.

Boxcar Cantina: If it’s a Thursday in summer or fall, then I will do whatever I can to be in Westport around lunchtime. Why? Because, I love having hot Tamales from Boxcar Cantina at the Westport Farmers’ Market! I always order their spicy chicken and black bean tamales. Their salsa is the perfect complement to the hot tamales...what a great meal! Boxcar Cantina is actually a restaurant in Greenwich, yet oddly enough I have never been to the restaurant. I guess it is because their presence at the Farmers’ Market satisfies all my cravings…or maybe because I don’t see tamales on their restaurant’s menu. Hmm…Located in Greenwich.
