Shake It Up
The best margaritas in Fairfield County
Cinco de Mayo is here, and we couldn’t be more excited. Let’s face it: who doesn’t like drinking margaritas while wearing a fake mustache and a Mexican poncho before noon? You can count me in. Whatever your poison, whether it’s frozen, fruity, or on the rocks, Fairfield County is home to some of the most delicious margaritas south of the border.
For May 5th and all summer long, we’ve rounded up some the yummiest margaritas from our favorite bars and restaurants. Some are mighty strong while others are a little, well, out there. But you be the judge. And remember: what happens on Cinco de Mayo will probably end up on Instagram...

The unofficial—or official, depending on who you ask—“Tequila Connoisseur of Connecticut,” Tequila Mockingbird in New Canaan knows a thing or two about making a mean margarita. After all, it does boast the largest tequila selection in the Northeast and its bartenders have attended classes in Mexico in the art of margarita making. From the classic margarita to the craziest of combinations, you can’t go wrong with a margarita from Tequila Mockingbird.

With the motto “Let Us Be Your Tequila Story” Geronimo’s is all about getting down to business—and by business we mean drinking, of course. The newly opened southwestern-inspired restaurant has an impressive margarita menu. Whether you’re feeling a little spicy or cool, calm and collected, Geronimo’s has it all. We highly recommend the Spicy Passion Fruit margarita featuring jalapeno infused tequila, passion fruit, triple sec and fresh lime. Or the cucumber cooler with cucumber infused tequila, muddled cucumber and cilantro, triple sec, and fresh lime juice.
980 Post Rd, Darien, CT, 06820; (203) 655-8500 or 1700 Post Rd, Fairfield, CT, 06824; (203) 292-9590
Nothing goes better with tacos than a little (or a lot) of tequila right? Bodega Taco Bar in Darien and Fairfield is the perfect spring/summer spot. While the atmosphere is easy going, they don’t mess around when it comes to tequila. The bar is fully stocked with 60 types of sipping tequilas. And did we mention its wide selection of specialty drinks including their to-die-for margaritas? We recommend the signature Bodegarita featuring los generals, luxardo triplum, lime juice and agave. Or try the Rosarita with espolon silver, triplum, hibiscus, and lime juice.
222 Summer St, Stamford, CT, 06901; (203) 323-TACO or 20 Wilton Rd, Westport, CT, 06880; (203) 222-TACO
It wouldn’t be a margarita roundup if we didn’t include Bartaco in Stamford and Westport. It’s breezy beach-shack aesthetic makes it the perfect backdrop for throwing back a couple margaritas and getting a little “loco” with friends. Its drink menu, including an impressive list of tequilas, is just as unique as its young crowd. Of course we recommend the margaritas, in particular, the bartaco margarita with maestro dobel reposado, combier liquer d’orange, agave syrup, and lime juice.
44 Old Field Point Rd, Greenwich, CT, 06830; (203) 661-4774
Boxcar Cantina has been keeping it authentic since 1994. Inspired by authentic Northern New Mexican cuisine, the restaurant is famously known for it’s delicious food (Tee Pee nachos anyone?) and mouth watering margaritas. Whether you prefer on the rocks, frozen, or up, all margaritas are made with 100% agave tequilas, freshly squeezed lime juice, and all natural triple sec.
