If The Shoe Fits…

Get it in whatever color you want!

Every little girl has at one point in their life pictured their dream wedding. From the intoxicating smell of the flowers to the perfect fit of the dress…to the blinding sparkle of the ring and the unforgettable flavor of the cake, this big and joyous celebration becomes sculpted more perfectly each year. And when the magical day finally does arrive, and it does ladies, does anyone ever really imagine what the shoes will look like?

Over the past few years, while the white dress and something blue, something borrowed and something new has stayed true to tradition, matching the stilettos to the gown has evolved in more ways than one.

More recently, newlywed Lauren Bush set an entirely new standard to wedding footwear when she wore cowboy boots in lieu of the expected four inch, spaghetti strapped, ivory dyed, Christian Louboutin's.  While this came as a shock to some of the old-fashioned-at-heart who tisk-tisk'd this alternate route, others applauded the individuality it represented, admiring its fun and flirty rebellion.

With most wedding gowns being floor length, the decision to mix up the shoe of choice can be discreet enough to barely be seen, or meant to simply catch as glimpse as the bride sashays down the aisle. The truth is, just because you are wearing bright pink Marabou stilettos underneath that Carolina Herrera gown does not mean you have to kick up your heels…but why not?

After reviewing some other fun, daring and different tootsy covering options for the big day, it turns out taking a detour from the expected may be a little more exciting and memorable, not only for you and the hubby, but for your guests as well.

While this may only now be in vogue, this isn’t exactly a new thing…recall the infamous Father of The Brides’ white ked sneakers decorated with lace and sequins? Whether you’re making a statement, or making it personal, brides are using bright and pastel colors, glamorous sparkles, extra heightened heels, over-the-top embellishments or nothing at all by going barefoot, to make their special day really theirs.

And while most of the pressure is on the bride to cover every little detail, even the grooms have been getting involved with their own footwear preference! Whether flip-flops, a pair of converse or a pair of funky patterned socks, husbands-to-be are starting to pick up on the trend too! Touche!
