Guided trail rides in and around Fairfield County

Get out and explore Connecticut's beautiful scenery on horseback. These horse farms and stables offer a variety of trail rides that will take the hitch out of any city slicker's giddyup.

Mead Farm dates back to 1928, making it the oldest horse riding establishment in Stamford. They offer boarding and year round lessons for kids and adults. From Mead Farm you can access over 170 acres of continuous horseback riding on the GRTA (Greenwich Riding & Trails Association, Inc) trails which include the 93 acre Nichols Preserve.

B & R Stables have been hosting trail rides for more than 30 years in the tranquil and scenic area surrounding Holiday Hill Day Resort. They have horses for children and adult riders of all levels in English and western saddles. Weekday trail rides are at 10AM, 11AM, 12PM, 1PM and 2PM. Weekend trail rides leave on the hour starting at 10AM ending at 3PM.

What you should know: All trail rides are guided and are $40/hour. The earlier rides are more challenging and better for more advanced riders; but they will also divide up a trail ride so that the more advanced riders can canter along while the beginners walk and trot. Trail rides are for ages 10 and up (8 and up if they have taken lessons or ridden before.)

PeeWee Horse Farm has beautiful trails on 130 acres of forested land that are well maintained exclusively for their customers and boarders. They also have pony rides and birthday parties at their farm or at your location.

What you should know: Their experts will select just the right horse for you. All trail rides are guided, offered year round and must be pre-booked. Western saddle trail ride $40/45 minutes, $80/90 minutes, and Group Excursions (call for pricing)— full day trail rides in locations in Connecticut and Vermont.

Lee's Riding Stable, Inc has trails rides in the beautiful hills of Litchfield County. They describe their horses as "well mannered" so beginners will definitely feel comfortable here. In addition  to their trail rides they board horses and have private and semi-private lessons in English, western and jumping. They also have indoor and outdoor pony rides for little tikes.

What you should know: All trail rides are guided. Ages 7 and up are welcome. Trail rides are $40/hour for the group ride or $70/hour private, $45/hour semi private.
