Gain in depth knowledge of the gastronomy, terroir, varietals and wine-making styles of Central Spain. This region is home to Madrid, Segovia, Toledo and the vast arid planes that surround them. Once only home to giant bulk wine production, it has recently been noticed for its ability to produce extraordinary grapes due to the high elevation and extreme weather conditions. Now, several of Spain’s young, renegade winemakers are making the country’s most compelling new wines from the D.O.’s surrounding Madrid, with very few traditional rules to hold them back. This class will explore the major producing areas here with a strong showing of Garnacha based wines, the area’s most important varietal.
