A rough, gruff and tough bluesman to the core, he is at the forefront of modern blues-rock, where the mix of intensity and integrity has made him one of the genres most popular figures. And he's an imposing figure at that, performing a style he describes as the Stooges meets Buddy Guy, Motörhead meets Muddy Waters, Jimi Hendrix meets meets Robert Johnson. Last year's StageOne performance was a prime example of how the stage trumps a sterile studio when it comes to Popa’s gritty sound. Boundary-pushing blues rocker Joe Louis Walker is a modern and legendary blues icon. The New York Times raves, "Walker is a singer with a Cadillac of a voice. His guitar solos are fast, wiry and incisive, moaning with bluesy despair." According to Living Blues, he is "one of today's modern musical masters." Rolling Stone simply calls him "ferocious." |
