Ho’ Down Lo’ Down
Here’s the 411 on The Blues, Views and Barbeque Festival
Thinking about a planning a family vacation to New Orleans this summer? Well, look no further than the 7th annual Blues, Views and Barbeque Festival in Westport.
Bob LeRose, founder of the festival and owner of Bobby Q’s is dedicated to bringing in noteworthy musical acts, mouth-watering bbq and family-fun at cost that doesn’t break the bank.
“People get everything that they love about a local festival, but they get to see five bands that played at The New Orleans Jazz Fest,” LeRose explained.
The headliners for this year’s festival are Spin Doctors and Rick Derringer.
This year families have the option to choose between two different ticketing tiers. The All-Access pass, which is $70 for both days, and The Family Fun Fest pass, which is $10 per day. The Family Fun Fest pass gives families access to all of the food and various kids’ activities, plus the musical acts that take place on the second stage.
“It’s a hell of a deal,” LeRose said.
For those who are more interested in the BBQ aspect of the festival, there is a backyard BBQ competition that anyone can enter. In fact, this is the largest amateur backyard BBQ competition in the northeast.
There is an entrance fee that teams pay, but the money is donated to the Westport Woman’s Club Food Closet. But LeRose points out that the winners of the competition do get bragging rights for having the best BBQ.
According to LeRose, a big part of this year's festival is the christening of the new Levitt Pavilion. LeRose believes that the festival is a great way to usher in the new performing arts center because the festival takes place in the Levitt Pavilions backyard.
“Let’s create a good fun party for Westport,” he said.
