Gathering of the Vibes will be celebrating its 19th year when it begins on Thursday, July 31 at Seaside Park in Bridgeport. With performances from Rusted Root, Slightly Stoopid, Ziggy Marley, and many more, the weekend is sure to draw its usual crowd of 25,000 attendees. If you plan on being one of them, it would do you well to hear out a true Vibes veteran.

Stephanie Miller is exactly that. A Fairfield native and recent graduate from UMass Amherst, she started attending “Vibes” in 2008 and has not missed the festival since. In honor of Miller’s lucky seventh year as a member of “the VibeTribe,” she has provided seven tips to make your weekend at Gathering of the Vibes music to your ears!

1.) Witness a wedding – “One of the best things I have seen at Vibes is when people get married. A few years ago, a couple got married on the Green Vibes stage, and everybody came out of their tents to celebrate!”

2.) Bring LOTS of water – “There's not many trees in the camping area for shade, so it's important to stay hydrated all weekend.”

3.) Get to know your neighbors – “One of the best parts about festivals is that you meet so many wonderful new people! I guarantee you will see them at other shows and festivals, and you form your very own little family with everybody you meet.”

4.) Prepare for rain – “Always bring umbrellas, ponchos, and some general rain/waterproofing gear. It's not fun have your stuff soggy all weekend after a downpour.”

5.) Make a plan for the bands you want to see – “There is so much great music that sometimes you lose track of who goes on when.”

6.) Lather up – “BRING SUNSCREEN! I burn to a freakin' crisp, so this is always crucial for me!”

7.) Bring bacon  – “Always bring bacon (and a grill) because bacon is absolutely delicious.  Bring enough bacon for your campsite and enough bacon to feed your neighbors. Chances are, you will have to borrow supplies from them at some point, and there is no better way to thank someone than with some delicious, crispy bacon. Seriously. The staple of my festival existence has to be bacon.”

Who are Miller’s must-sees this year?

“Twiddle - They are all absolutely phenomenal musicians, and they put on one hell of a show! If you like face-melting, awesome phenomenal funky jam shredding, check them out…Dark Star Orchestra is the best Grateful Dead cover band there ever was, and they perfectly recreate entire shows that have exactly the same sound as the decade they were originally played in.”
