Event and Party Planning Trends for 2013

Go inside the BizBash IdeaFest tradeshow

Each year, thousands of event and meeting professionals gather at the Jacob K. Javits Center for what is possibly the best one-day industry trade show, BizBash IdeaFest. Held annually in major markets across the U.S., the shows attract event planning professionals eager to see what’s next in the industry. Having attended for several years, I can scout trends, seek insights from prominent industry leaders and simply network with peers. We are able to see specialized vendors who do not traditionally advertise to the general public. Want a larger than life game show at your next event or a customized social media booth?  At IdeaFest, we’re able to feel good about the folks we recommend by experiencing their products and services first hand.

At six months pregnant, walking the expo floor is no easy task but for BizBash it’s game on. And, at BizBash, you’re allowed to be hopped up on sugar because sampling from the various cake and pastry artists is of course part of the job... So, armed with my trusty notebook & a sugar buzz, here are a few trends I discovered for your events and parties in 2013:

Luxury is Legit

BizBash

Lux is definitely in for 2013 & luxury inspired details appeared throughout the show. From rentals made out of high-end materials to rich textured linens, alittle luxury is a must. Rentals are doing luxury so well with furnishings to match any upscale vision from South Beach Chic to Opulent. Add a custom fabric backdrop and really transform a bare space. Jeweled cakes, glittery bon-bons & even personalized leather favors, shoes and bling can make your event really shine.

Customized Photobooths

Photobooths may have been all the rage and several companies are taking boothing to the next level. Branded photobooths allow you to skin your booth to a matching event theme. Email pics from the booth, upload them to social media and even use video inside the booth for a unique experience.  More companies are offering custom props and backdrops to match your event and real time galleries that can be posted on site.  Booths come in all sizes and the technology will continue to evolve. Expect to pay a premium for some of the new booths but high-end entertainment or photography can cost about the same.

Meeting Technology Can Be Fun

Using the latest in mobile technology and interactivity, companies are using apps and social media to manage meetings, trade shows and product launches more effectively. By enhancing team building efforts and boosting up employee incentives and rewards, technology is the now solution.  Adding intra-company mobile gaming competitions, virtual meeting applications, branded texting & even smart badge networking systems allow companies to stand out.

Specialty Talent & Entertainment

BizBash

If there is one really cool thing about BizBash, it’s that talent get to perform right on the show floor. Walking into BizBash, I am greeted by living art statues and 400 feet away blinded by the costumes of The Screaming Queens. This year, I was treated to some great new talent that can easily be brought into your next event. Consider a performance or ambiance booster by an aerialist, “living” floral arrangement or artwork, performance bartender, ice sculptor and even a DJ Chef who spins tracks and provides cooking demonstrations simultaneously.

Interactive Entertainment

Keeping in line with entertaining party guests is the notion of interactivity. Virtual gaming and guest participation is hotter than ever in 2013. Trends like I pad photo stations, life- sized video games, LED light up competitions & glamming guests for their own paparazzi moment is exciting and unique. Portable “performance technology” is adaptable to nearly any space and can make a bar mitzvah, wedding or birthday party extremely cool.

Catering from your fond favorites

BizBash

One trend I am really liking is the “not so specialty, specialty catering”. Meaning your favorite places like Pinkberry or even Dunkin Donuts are rolling out great catering options for events. Think beyond the “Box O’ Joe” & bring in a mini Dunkin Donuts storefront complete with uniform clad employee. Pinkberry offers fantastic catering options at a variety of price points. Set up pre-swirled yogurt and a selection of toppings for an authentic store experience at your party. These options are great for everything from baby showers to office parties to bar mitzvahs.

So, get excited about all of your 2013 events and know that there is such a thing as a fresh and unique idea that you may not have seen. Feel free to email me at michele@michelesinacoreevents.com for any inquiries regarding above trends or sources seen at BizBash.
